File Specification

1. Preferred file formats include native Illustrator (.ai), Indesign (.indd), and Photoshop (.tif,
.psd, or high quality .jpg)

2. When submitting native layouts which include linked images and/or live fonts be absolutely sure to also provide all necessary accompanying assets. And along with native .indd and .ai files, a low res pdf should be provided for visual reference only.

3. Image assets should be AT LEAST 100 dpi at 100% of desired output size for fabric printing,
150 dpi for direct to substrate or wallpaper and 300 dpi for lightjet.

4. Linked images should be in CMYK mode with the Gracol 2006 v2 ICC profile embedded
(unless being printed lightjet, in which case RGB color space with sRGB profile is preferred).

5. Print ready PDFs can also be acceptable if saved with the proper amount of bleed and registration marks. These requirements vary by output process, so please ask for specifications before submitting. And when in doubt include linked assets and fonts anyway so that adjustments can be made if necessary.

6. Make sure files are set up at, or as close to 100% as possible. If it is necessary to design the file at a percentage of the final output size, be sure that the proportions of the crop area are correct, and call out the scale outside the canvas (ie. Scale = 1:4 or Print at 400%).

7. When submitting files that will be cut to a custom shape, include a separate layer containing
a vector path for the desired cut line. This path(s) should have a 1pt stroke and be set to 100% magenta for easy identification.

8. When files are designed using PANTONE spot colors, Portland Color will make every effort to match the appropriate book swatches. When files are submitted with only process color mixes we will output as is, unless a hard copy proof or color match (match print) of some kind is also provided as a guide.

9. When naming files it is a good idea to include pertinent information like client or project
name, desired material, final output size, etc.

10. When in doubt ask questions. Our customer service, and production staff are happy to
provide guidance in the early stages of file set up in order to ensure the smoothest and highest
quality production of your final printed product.
